Canfor/Spirit of the North Education Scholarship

Canfor and Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation have partnered to offer an “Education Scholarship of $1,000″ to students registered in a health sciences degree or diploma program.

Terms of Reference Document

 Purpose

The Healthcare Education Scholarship provides financial support to northern students enrolled in undergraduate health care education programs at a post-secondary institution in Northern BC.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to receive this scholarship, applicants must:

• Have completed or be completing their grade twelve at a public or private school located within the geographic boundaries of Northern Health.
• Be registered in a health sciences degree or diploma program.
• Be intending to work within the geographic boundaries of Northern Health upon graduation.

Application

To apply for the scholarship, an applicant provides:

• A copy of his/her secondary school transcripts.
• A current copy of a registration form showing enrollment in one of the education programs shown above.
• A written statement (two pages maximum) demonstrating the applicant’s history of commitment to Northern communities through past or current community leadership or volunteer activities.

Selection Criteria

 Successful applicant(s) are chosen by the following criteria:

• Applicants satisfy all eligibility requirements
• Academic achievement
• Demonstrated commitment to northern communities

Adjudication

 An adjudication committee is composed of one representative from the following organizations: 

• The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation
• Northern Health
• The College of New Caledonia, Northern Lights College or Northwest Community College
• A school district within the geographical boundaries of Northern Health
• The University of Northern British Columbia

 Each applicant will receive a response within six weeks.

 Award of Scholarship

Individual applicants may only be awarded the Canfor/Spirit of the North Healthcare Scholarship once. Funds will be provided by September 15 of each calendar based on confirmation of graduation.
