Commonwealth Cup Golf Tournament Attracts Big Names
The 8th Annual Commonwealth Cup is set to take place at the Aberdeen Glen Golf Course on Tuesday, July 19th. This annual event is a fundraiser for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and with the commitment of Vancouver Canuck’s Defenseman Dan Hamhuis, this year’s tournament is shaping up to be even more spectacular than last year’s. In addition to Hamhuis, event coordinators confirm that Prince George’s own Darcy Rota and several other NHL & Prince George Cougar Alumni will also be teeing off to raise money to help enhance healthcare in the north.
Honourary Co-Chairs, the Honourable Shirley Bond, MLA Prince George – Valemount and the Honourable Kevin Falcon, MLA Surrey – Cloverdale will also be in attendance at the tournament, each taking an active role in helping raise much needed funds throughout the day. As part of the fundraising festivities, Kevin has agreed to join the other VIP guests in being ‘auctioned off’ to the highest bidder as a golf partner for the event.
Funds raised this year will be used towards the purchase of a Video Capsule Enteroscopy machine (also known as a “Camera Pill”) which is another state-of-the-art piece of equipment that will eliminate the need for many patients to go south for diagnosis.
“I would like to sincerely thank all participants, volunteers and sponsors who make this tournament such a huge success. Also a big thanks to Dan McLaren and his team at Commonwealth for all the work they do every year to raise funds for our community”, said Don Gowan from the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. Don is looking forward to not only a great day of golf, but to acknowledging the corporate support and partnerships that have been developed over the years. The team effort that goes into planning for and organizing a tournament of this magnitude is amazing and the Spirit of the North is grateful to all the players who have signed up, the sponsors who have come onboard and the volunteers who have made it happen.
