Spirit of the North’s 7th Annual Radiothon a Huge Success!

The 7th Annual Spirit of the North Radiothon was a huge success thanks to our many supporters. Together we exceeded our goal of $60,000 by raising $62,784.62 for the purchase of equipment needed for four examination rooms in the new Primary Health Care Clinic.  This equipment will include exam tables and stools, special exam room lights, ophthalmic and otoscopes, stethoscopes, electronic medical record systems and computers just to name a few items.   The establishment of this new Primary Health Care Clinic will soon allow 5,000 people to receive the care of a family physician along with a team of nurse practitioners and other medical professionals in a unique and collaborative environment.

For twelve straight hours from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, the on-air announcers at 101.3 The River and 99.3 The Drive broadcasted live from the Hospital atrium, chatting on air with doctors and other healthcare professionals, as well as with many other supporters from the community.  Our outstanding volunteers were answering phones, taking pledges and challenges, and also calling friends, family and co-workers for donations as the total grew throughout the day.

To help generate funds throughout the day several businesses in our community participated by sponsoring Power Hours. Tim Horton’s, Northland Auto Group, Royal LePage, McDonalds, Wood Wheaton Supercentre and JC Hoover Holdings/Shooters Pubs all made enormous commitments to donate and also match donations from callers.

The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation is truly appreciative of all the volunteers, sponsors and donors who made this Radiothon such a wonderful success.  Our community has once again demonstrated that we have a special ‘northern spirit’ and the results of this fundraising event will impact our community in a significant way as we move forward with the new Primary Health Care Clinic.

7th Annual Spirit of the North Radiothon
Date: Friday, September 16th, 2011
Time: 6:00 am – 6:00 pm

Throughout the day, every hour, for twelve straight hours, the great folks at The River 101.3 and 99.3 The Drive will broadcast live from the Atrium at the UHNBC, chatting on air with doctors and nurses, former patients of the hospital, as well as with friends and supporters from the community. At all times our volunteers will be answering the phones, taking pledges and challenges, and updating the radio listeners as the donations grow throughout the day. We invited everyone to make that phone call, or come down to the Foundation office just inside the front doors of the University Hospital of Northern BC.

Sponsorship Opportunity

Many of our community partners are organizing pre-events prior to September 16 to help raise funds for UHNBC, and will be on hand throughout the Radiothon to make their presentations. As these events are confirmed we will be promoting them on The River 101.3 and 99.3 The Drive, as well as on their websites.

We would like to offer your business/organization the opportunity to support this event and UHNBC. Please consider matching the pledges made, up to a predetermined amount, for an hour on the day of the Radiothon, making you a “Power Hour” sponsor. All support will be recognized on-air during the Radiothon, as well as Power Hour sponsors will receive value added pre-event radio exposure.
