Enveloped in a twinkle of glitz, sparkles and Stars, a group of 300 guests rang in the New Year by attending the Boogie with the Stars New Year’s Eve Event. Held at the Civic Centre, and put on by the Dance North Ballroom Dance Club, this second annual event raised over $19,000 for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. The evening included an amazing buffet dinner and after the competition was over the guests danced the night away to the 20 piece big band ‘In the Mood.’
Guests were entertained by 6 well known Prince George residents and their instructors from Dance North. They competed for the highly coveted trophy, with results based on both their dance scores and the total amount of funds raised by the celebrity.
Tom Sentes from Wood Wheaton and his instructor Paz Milburn took first place, Dan Denis with Concept Design and his partner Colleen Ruddy finished second while Martina Humphrey from TD Canada Trust finished third with Peter Weedon. Also competing were Dr. Paul Winwood with his instructor Stella Royle, Joanne Archer with Provincial Health Services and Zeki Basboyuk and Jennifer Brandle-McCall, Prince George Chamber of Commerce CEO, with Paul Eberlein.
The evening was sponsored by Wood Wheaton Supercentre, with Tom Sentes taking an active role in getting his friends, family and colleagues to dig deep and pledge plenty for his participation. Tom, a member of the Spirit of the North’s Board of Directors, explains his passionate involvement. “Today dancing doesn’t play as big of a role in our lives, and isn’t the glue that keeps our community together and living a healthier lifestyle.” Not only did Tom learn some new dance moves and raise money for healthcare in his community – he has taken an important step in his own level of healthcare and wellness.
Thanks to Peter Weedon and Paz Milburn from Dance North for all of their efforts in putting on this wonderful New Year’s Eve fundraiser as well as a big thank you to all of those who danced, pledged support for the dancers, volunteered at the event or came and were entertained.
All proceeds from this event will be used by the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation to enhance healthcare throughout the referral area of the University Hospital of Northern BC.
