ECHO Ultrasound arrives in Vanderhoof

A belated Christmas Present arrives at St. John Hospital
The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation is delighted to announce that the much anticipated ECHO Ultrasound has arrived in Vanderhoof and will soon be in full use at St. John Hospital providing cardiac diagnostics for the Omineca Region.
What started out last fall as a request to have an ECHO Ultrasound funded in the region quickly materialized with funding and support coming from a variety of sources. An applied for grant provided an initial commitment of one-half of the funds needed. Integris Credit Union quickly stepped in to provide a substantial donation of $50,000 in memory of Rosalie Nichiporuk, a long time resident and community minded individual who was passionate about healthcare, and well known throughout the region. Donations from many residents poured in to support the Memorial for Rosalie that included a significant donation of $10,000 from the St. John Hospital Auxiliary and a grant of $12,000 from the Four Rivers Co-op through their Community Support Fund that completed the funding needed.
“The impact these funds will have on the future of cardiac health for the area west of Prince George is immeasurable,” said Judy Neiser, CEO of Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. “This campaign was funded in record time through so many who clearly embrace their community and the health and wellness of their residents. We are so grateful to Mr. & Mrs. P.A. Woodwards Foundation for their initial gift; Integris Credit Union for their insight, support, and leadership embracing a valued community individual; the Auxiliary at St. John Hospital for their substantial contribution; and Four Rivers Co-op who provided an amazing BBQ to kick off the event and also a generous grant. Together with the many residents, businesses, and family members who were supportive of the campaign, this is now a reality. This is community helping community!”
“We are honoured to be able to support the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation as they are a truly dedicated organization that has significantly improved the lives of many individuals within our communities”. Said Allan Bieganski, General Manager, Four Rivers Co-operative. When you provide support to local organizations and groups whose overall goals are to help their communities prosper, everyone benefits. We are proud to say that we stand behind the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation as well as their mission and we are grateful for the opportunity to be able to contribute to their organization for this year’s 2021 Community Support Fund.”
Dr. Ho, GP, and Physician Lead for this campaign said “As a local physician performing cardiac stress testing at St. John Hospital, I am thrilled at the prospect of performing echocardiography in Vanderhoof, we can now reduce travel times, shorten regional waitlists, and provide better care.”
