Vanderhoof Co-Op Night at the Spruce Kings a Win for St. John’s Hospital

The Spruce Kings may have fallen in a 5-2 game to the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday night, but they pulled out a huge win for St. John’s Hospital in Vanderhoof.

Saturday’s game night sponsor was the Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op, and Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation was honoured to partner with them in an effort to raise $3,200 to fund a set of surgical instruments for use in Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) procedures at St. John’s Hospital.

“We at Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op believe that investing in our communities makes us stronger. We are proud to have been able to join with the Spruce Kings in supporting the Spirit of North Health Care Foundation to raise money to purchase surgical equipment for St. John Hospital. Thank you to everyone who came out to support this great cause.” – Allan Bieganski, General Manager, Vanderhoof and Districts Co-operative Association.

Fundraising started early in the evening as the Treasure Cove Casino generously donated $1,000 toward the goal, and FreFlyt Industries Inc. added $200. Many in the crowd purchased Spirit Bears to help toward the goal, and the Spruce Kings donated the proceeds of their 50/50 draw.

“Thanks to the kindness and goodwill of the Vanderhoof Co-op, the Spruce Kings and the fans, we are delighted to say that the equipment has been funded in full,” said Annette Stevens, Donor Relations Manager for Spirit of the North.

“We were so thrilled to be part of this fundraising event for Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. It was great to see such a huge crowd out supporting this,” said Lu Verticchio, Business and Marketing Manager, Prince George Spruce Kings. “Thanks to Vanderhoof Co-op, Treasure Cove Casino, FreFlyt Industries Inc., and the fans … this benefits the entire region.”
