Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation along with the Broomsgrove family are honoured to announce the Susan Broomsgrove Legacy Bursary.

Sue was a bright light in the lives of so many… a force of nature full of joy, strength, empathy, and love. She spent her life caring for others as a nurse and midwife and later as a mediator and workplace leadership coach. She completed her nurses' training at the Gwent School of Nursing in Newport in 1970, two years later received her midwifery certificate, and in 1997 completed her Bachelor of Nursing Science while raising a family and working full time. She enjoyed a long career at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. for over 40 years.

The Susan Broomsgrove Legacy Bursary, established by the Broomsgrove family, aims to honor the legacy and impact of Susan Broomsgrove, a dedicated nurse, teacher, and mentor.  This bursary mission is to provide financial support to deserving students from Northern British Columbia who are pursuing nursing education and are committed to serving their communities in the North.

Sue was a lifelong learner, extremely passionate about her work and always up for a challenge. She gave so much of her time, care, and expertise to her community; during her tenure with Northern Health, she advocated and created programs for children and at-risk populations including the early childhood program "Make Children First." Sue was a true healer, delivering beings into this world - she loved her time as a midwife - and holding others when they departed.

The Susan Broomsgrove Legacy Bursary represents an opportunity to invest in the future of nursing in Northern BC while honoring the legacy of a dedicated healthcare professional. This generous gift will empower students to pursue their education and serve their communities, creating a lasting impact for years to come.

The Susan Broomsgrove Legacy Bursary is not just a financial award but a testament to Susan's dedication to caring for others and her lifelong love of learning. By supporting aspiring nurses from the region, the bursary ensures Susan's legacy lives on through the compassionate care provided by future generations of healthcare professionals.

This award serves as a powerful reminder of the positive difference one person can make, fostering a spirit of excellence and care within the community.
