Advancing Breast Cancer Detection at UHNBC
Thanks to community support, new technology at UHNBC is helping advance breast cancer detection and improve outcomes for patients across Northern BC.
The MOLLI system is a small, wire-free marker used during surgery to precisely locate breast tumours. Compared to traditional wire localization, it allows surgeons to more accurately pinpoint tumours for removal, leading to better surgical outcomes, fewer repeat procedures, and improved comfort for patients.
This innovation is already making a meaningful difference in care.
As one staff member shared:
“The MOLLI system has provided the opportunity to greatly enhance the capacity to detect breast cancer at UHNBC. In turn, this contributes to improved outcomes and offers hope to so many patients and their families. Your support reflects the profound commitment to advancing care and making a real difference in the fight against breast cancer in Northern BC.”
Now in use by surgical teams at UHNBC, the MOLLI system is helping patients move through their care journey with greater confidence and precision.
This is the impact of community support: bringing new technology to the North, improving care, and changing lives.
