Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, donors, sponsors, and supporters, we are thrilled to share that $425,000 was raised for vital healthcare equipment and patient comfort initiatives right here at UHNBC.

 

Every dollar makes a difference, and this year your support is helping to fund:

   •   A pediatric life-saving defibrillator and monitor, ensuring our youngest patients receive the urgent care they need

   •   Maternal ultrasound equipment, allowing high-risk expectant mothers to stay closer to home

   •   Cardiac ECG technology, advancing care for those with heart-related conditions

   •   A liver retractor for cancer care, supporting complex surgical procedures

   •   Dementia-friendly door wraps, enhancing safety and dignity for seniors in care

   •   The Lymphedema Garment Fund, easing the financial burden for those managing chronic swelling

   •   And more initiatives that reflect our commitment to improving health outcomes for all

Spirit Day 2025 Funding Priorities

    Pediatric Equipment: Lifesaving Defibrillator & Monitor


    COST: $34,388

    WHAT IT IS:
    A machine (called LIFEPAK 15) used in emergencies to monitor a child’s vital signs and restart their heart if it stops.

    WHY IT MATTERS:

    This equipment helps doctors quickly react during life-threatening situations. It could be funded through Spirit Day and used right away in the Pediatric Department.

    Maternal Ultrasound Equipment


    COST: $225,000

    WHAT IT IS:
    A specialized ultrasound machine for high-risk pregnancies.

    WHY IT MATTERS:

    Right now, many pregnant people in the North have travel to Vancouver for tests like detailed baby imaging, baby heart scans, blood flow checks, and genetic conditions. This machine would help them get care closer to home, reducing stress and costs.

    Seniors’ Health: Dementia-Friendly Door Wraps


    COST: $20,000

    WHAT IT IS:
    Custom vinyl decorations for seniors’ room doors that look like real home doors.

    WHY IT MATTERS:

    These door wraps help people with dementia recognize their rooms more easily, reducing confusion and stress. They support independence and make the care environment feel more like home.

    COST: Ongoing Need

    WHAT IT IS:
    Specialized garments for patients with swelling caused by cancer treatments or surgeries.

    WHY IT MATTERS:

    These garments are expensive and not always covered by insurance. Spirit of the North helps make sure patients can get what they need to reduce pain and improve mobility.

    Cancer Care: Liver Retractor


    COST: $93,862

    WHAT IT IS:
    A surgical tool that helps surgeons during complex liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic surgeries.

    WHY IT MATTERS:

    This tool allows these surgeries to happen in Prince George instead of sending patients to bigger cities. It helps treat cancer closer to home.
