SPIRIT DAY IS ALL ABOUT COMING TOGETHER TO SUPPORT INITIATIVES THAT MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE FOR PATIENTS AND FAMILIES ACROSS NORTHERN BC

Spirit Day is a 12-hour radio broadcast that brings Northern BC together around a shared commitment to stronger local healthcare. Throughout the day, listeners hear powerful stories of care, courage, and resilience from across our region, while also learning how funds raised help support vital equipment, patient comfort initiatives, and priority healthcare needs at UHNBC and beyond.

Funds raised this year will help provide life-saving equipment for pediatrics, cardiac, cancer, senior care, and other meaningful initiatives at UHNBC and beyond.

After raising an incredible $425,000 last year, we’re setting our sights even higher in 2026! Be part of it, give what you can, and help us break the record for care in the North. Funding Priorities

Gateway Lodge Door Wraps

COST: $35,000
WHAT IT IS:
Decorative vinyl coverings applied to residents’ room doors.
WHY IT MATTERS:
These wraps enhance a sense of home reducing the institutional feel of the hallways. They support resident orientation as each door is a different colour while enhancing a sense of belonging. These coverings are far more durable than the current finishing on the wood doors preventing wear and tear.
Lymphedema Garment Fund

COST: Ongoing Need
WHAT IT IS:
Specialized garments for patients with swelling caused by cancer treatments or surgeries.
WHY IT MATTERS:
These garments are expensive and not always covered by insurance. Spirit of the North helps make sure patients can get what they need to reduce pain and improve mobility.
Pediatric MRI Coil

COST: $74,000
WHAT IT IS:
A specialized MRI coil designed specifically for our littlest patients who require diagnostic imaging for a range of medical conditions including neurological, abdominal, and musculoskeletal concerns.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Standard adult MRI equipment is not optimized for children and can compromise image quality. Having this equipment available in the North helps improve diagnostic accuracy while lessening the need for sedation in young patients.
CARDIAC EQUIPMENT

COST: $831,000
WHAT IT IS:
A diagnostic IMIT system; a Diathermy machine; four Holter Monitors; and Philips Monitor.
WHY IT MATTERS:
This investment of new and upgraded equipment will enhance cardiac interventional services at UHNBC for patients across the region.
EC THERAPY EQUIPMENT

COST: $57,000
WHAT IT IS:
A specialized treatment that can provide life-changing relief for people living with severe depression and other complex mental health conditions.
WHY IT MATTERS:
‍ Supporting ECT services ensures continued access to one of the most effective treatments available for severe mental illness. This helps patients in our region recover, and regain stability in their lives with dignity and hope.
Urology laser

COST: $197,000
WHAT IT IS:
Surgical equipment used for patients requiring treatment for bladder cancer and/or prostate cancer.
WHY IT MATTERS:
This equipment ensures that patients in the North would receive timely intervention and effective surgical care while allowing surgeries to be completed with more efficiency.
