Transforming Senior Care in Northern BC, A New Home and a New Model of Living
We’re proud to share news of a groundbreaking project that’s set to transform the way long-term care is delivered in our region.
In response to growing demand and lengthy waitlists for long-term care in Northern BC, Providence Living, in partnership with Northern Health, is bringing a new model of care, and a new home for seniors, to Prince George. The numbers speak for themselves, with over 306 seniors currently waiting for long-term care placements and average wait times exceeding 8 months, the need for expanded care is urgent.
This new development will offer more than just increased capacity. It will reimagine the experience of aging and care through an innovative, relationship-centered model called Home for Us. Built on compassion and designed to feel like home, this model includes private rooms with ensuite bathrooms and smaller “households” of just 12 residents, each with their own living, dining, and kitchen spaces. Gone are the crowded, institutional settings of traditional care homes. Instead, seniors will enjoy autonomy, meaningful connection, and a true sense of belonging.
The first phase in Prince George, PG1, will be part of a larger integrated campus that includes:
• A geriatric psychiatry unit to be operated by Northern Health
• A YMCA operated daycare center
• An adult day program with community bathing services
• Beautiful, accessible gardens and courtyards for outdoor living
