If you live in Northern BC, you’ve probably felt it:
The distance. The wait times. The strain that comes from needing care that isn’t always nearby. 

We’re working to change that. 

Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation raises funds to support better access to care in Northern British Columbia. That includes life-saving equipment, diagnostic tools, and medical technology that help people get answers faster and stay closer to home for treatment. 

Access to care shouldn’t depend on how close you live to a major center. Spirit of the North has existed for over 30 years, and while much of our early work focused on Prince George and UHNBC, that’s no longer the full picture. We’re in communities throughout the region, working to fill the gaps. Each project starts the same way: with a need. We listen, work with local teams, and then rally support from generous donors and partners who care about keeping healthcare close to home.

Working Together to Strengthen Care

We support more than 130 communities and care facilities in collaboration with healthcare providers and partners, with involvement that varies based on existing resources, project scope, and timing.

Here’s how Spirit of the north contributes:

WE WORK AS A FUNDING PARTNER

In many communities, Spirit works alongside existing hospital foundations or local fundraising groups. Our role is to add capacity, contribute funding, and work collaboratively to get high-priority projects like major equipment purchases, facility upgrades, and training access across the finish line. 

WE SUPPORT FUNDRAISING IN COMMUNITIES WITHOUT FOUNDATIONS

Where no formal foundation exists, Spirit leads fundraising efforts in coordination with local healthcare staff and community stakeholders. We connect donors, businesses, and health teams to support critical equipment needs and improve access to care. These efforts are locally focused and guided by the same community-first approach we bring to all of our work.

In every case, Spirit’s role is flexible and responsive. Some communities need immediate help securing diagnostic tools or clinical equipment. Others are planning multi-phase improvements that require long-term commitment. We adapt to support both.

Every donation made through Spirit of the North can be directed to the area of care and location that matter most to you. As a donor, you have the full ability to choose exactly where your gift goes, whether that’s supporting cardiac care, pediatrics, cancer services, or another priority, and whether you’d like it to benefit your local hospital or another community in need.

Invest in Better Outcomes for You and Those You Love

To ensure your donation stays local, select the fund that matches your region (such as Quesnel Health Services or Omineca Health Services). If you’d like your donation to support a specific department or piece of equipment within that region, include those details in the comment box on the Donation Form.
