The 30th annual Festival of Trees surpassed all expectations, marking a resounding success. With three decades of tradition behind it, this year's event transformed the venue into a mesmerizing wonderland, showcasing a breathtaking array of uniquely decorated trees, each one a testament to creativity and craftsmanship.
The community's support was overwhelming, drawing in record-breaking attendance and generous contributions. Attendees marveled at the exquisitely adorned trees, wreaths, and holiday displays, fostering a festive spirit that spread joy and goodwill throughout.
Moreover, the Festival's fundraising efforts surpassed previous years, securing substantial donations towards Northern BC’s healthcare, further cementing its role as not just a celebration of the season but also a vital force for positive change within our community and region. The 30th Annual Festival of Trees undoubtedly left an indelible mark, continuing its legacy of uniting people and spreading cheer for years to come.

Major $1 Million Donation Announced at 30th Annual Festival of Trees Fundraising Gala

Last night, at the 30th Annual Festival of Trees Fundraising Gala presented by Northland Auto Group, a transformative $1 million donation was announced in remembrance of Carol Bajkov, a cherished and longtime volunteer with the Festival of Trees.
Carol Bajkov, who dedicated herself to the festival since its inception, played a pivotal role around the children's workshop, fostering an environment of creativity and joy for young minds. With an unwavering commitment, she mobilized an army of volunteers each year, leaving an indelible mark on the festival's success.
This generous million-dollar donation, made by Carol's family, is a heartfelt tribute to her legacy and passion for helping future generations. The funds will be directed towards the expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a cause close to Carol's heart.
“My mom would be so humbly proud to know her legacy will forever help children that she cared so deeply for” said Lara Pederson, Carol’s daughter.

This million-dollar gift, in her honor, ensures that Carol's legacy of compassion and generosity will continue to touch and transform generations to come,” said Aimee Cassie, CEO at Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
The expansion project includes adding additional beds, creating family spaces to provide comfort during challenging times, and establishing a dedicated patio for families to access fresh air. Particularly noteworthy is the creation of dedicated twin spaces, addressing a crucial need in Northern BC that will significantly enhance the care provided to newborns.
The NICU expansion will forever carry Carol Bajkov’s name, prominently highlighted on its walls, ensuring her memory lives on for years to come. This remarkable gift will not only facilitate the growth of vital healthcare services but also serve as a lasting testament to Carol's profound impact on the Festival of Trees and her commitment to the well-being of the littlest patients in the north.
