New Colposcopy Service in the NW & NE
A new Colposcopy service has now been added to the NW and NE thanks to the donors of Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
When cervix screening results in unusual cytology a patient may be referred for a colposcopy which is a procedure used for diagnosing cervical cancer. Access to colposcopy services is a very important part of early detection and treatment of cancer, and was not previously an option in the NW and NE, causing patients to travel to Prince George for the procedure.
Thanks to our generous donors, patients in the communities of Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Prince Rupert can now have screenings completed in their hometowns without having the burden of travel. This undertaking included the addition of beds, tools, and training for local healthcare professionals and has been in the works for the past six months.
