A Major Step Forward: MRI Guided Breast Biopsy Service Coming to Northern BC
This past weekend at HockeyFest, our community rallied together to help bring cancer care closer to home, and thanks to the incredible generosity of the Auxiliary to UHNBC, we are proud to share that the launch of the MRI Guided Breast Biopsy Service is now a reality.
The Auxiliary contributed an extraordinary $115,660, ensuring that patients across Northern BC will soon have access to MRI guided breast biopsies right here in Northern BC. For so many individuals, this means fewer long trips away from family and faster access to the care they need, when they need it most.
Why This Matters
MRI guided breast biopsies are an important diagnostic tool that allows for earlier and more precise detection of breast cancer. Until now, patients in Northern BC had to travel outside the region for this specialized service. The introduction of this technology at UHNBC will significantly reduce wait times, ease the stress of travel, and improve outcomes for patients and their families.
The Auxiliary’s Impact
The Auxiliary to UHNBC has long been a cornerstone of healthcare in our region. Through countless volunteer hours, tireless fundraising, and deep compassion, they continually step up to make sure patients receive the very best in care. Their gift to launch this service is yet another shining example of their unwavering dedication to the hospital family and the broader Northern community.
Community Spirit in Action
HockeyFest showed us the power of community coming together — not just on the courts, but in the causes we support. Every team, every sponsor, and every participant played a role in raising awareness for this initiative. The Auxiliary’s transformational gift amplifies that impact, helping us take a giant step forward in advancing cancer care across the North.
We are profoundly grateful to the Auxiliary for their partnership and generosity. Their commitment helps bring our vision closer to reality: ensuring patients can access world-class healthcare without having to leave their home communities.
Together, we are changing lives.
